PhD and MS opportunities studying the tectonics of the Mongolian Altai

I am currently recruiting a PhD student (starting Fall 2022) to work on a funded NSF project studying basin evolution and the onset of uplift in the Mongolian Altai (western Mongolia). This project will involve 2-3 field seasons, hopefully beginning during the summer of 2022, and will incorporate sedimentology, stratigraphy, provenance analysis, geochronology, and paleoclimate research.

There are two other graduate opportunities supported by this grant including one PhD project at Indiana University that will use thermochronometry to understand the timing of uplift of the Mongolian Altai supervised by Andrea Stevens Goddard; and one MS project at New Mexico Tech focusing on geodynamic modelling of Mongolian Altai deformation supervised by Jolante van Wijk.

Please contact me, Andrea Stevens Goddard, and/or Jolante van Wijk for more information. The deadline for graduate applications at NMT is January 15, 2022.

Master's research opportunity in sedimentology and basin analysis

I am currently recruiting for a field-based master’s degree project starting fall 2021 on the sedimentology, stratigraphy, basin evolution, and paleoclimate of the La Jencia Basin, Rio Grande Rift. This project will include extensive fieldwork as well as analytical work. Email me directly for more information.

Masters student opportunity in Sedimentology and Basin Analysis

I am currently looking for a masters student to start at New Mexico Tech in August, 2018. This field-intensive project will center on the sedimentology, basin evolution, and tectonics of the Pennsylvanian-Permian Darwin Basin, now exposed in the Argus Range west of Death Valley, California.

This project will be supported by funds from a mid-sized American petroleum company, and it will provide excellent opportunity for collaboration and data sharing with industry scientists. Please contact me directly for more information.
