Starting in August, 2018, the Tectonics, Basins, and Petroleum group at New Mexico Tech will start working on a new project studying the Darwin Basin in eastern California. Preliminary work suggests that this basin may prove to be an excellent outcrop analog for deepwater facies within the Midland and Delaware Basins, but no detailed facies or basin analysis has been conducted.

This project is in collaboration with a Northern Arizona University project studying the Keeler Canyon Basin just to the north, and integration of these studies will build a complete basin history of this late Paleozoic basin. Stay tuned for more results!
